Public Thrift first launched in Corktown in January of 2020. We had a teeny tiny pop-up space. After a few years hiatus, we opened a store in Hamtramck in October 2022.
Public Thrift is a worker-cooperative, which means that the power of the business is in the hands of us- the workers. Public Thrift is not only a place to shop sustainably and affordably but also a business that supports the local community.
We pay workers well-above minimum wages, partner with mutual aid groups and non profits to donate excess items, and provide consignment opportunities to local people.
